Specialised plate warmers for use in the kitchen prior to plating up dishes are the most space-effective ways of keeping crockery at the right temperature for service. These come in the form of tall units in which plates can be stacked high, saving floor space, or they can even be positioned on a countertop.

Plate warmers intended for use in the restaurant itself are also available, thermostatically controlled stainless steel hot plates heated in a tower unit and then used to place side dishes or other meal components on, maintaining the temperature of the dish for longer - the hot plates keep temperature for up to 45 minutes.
