Commercial potato peelers, or rumblers, use a rotating base and an abrasive inner compartment wall to remove the skin of potatoes as well as any remnant earth. A constant flow of sprinkled water removes soil and potato skin automatically.
Using a potato peeler reduces the cost of raw ingredients with very little manual effort, peeled potatoes being more expensive than those which are bought unwashed and unpeeled. Combined with a potato chipper they can more or less fully automate the preparation of homemade chips, and can also be used to prepare potatoes for boiling, mashing, roasting and any other method of cooking and serving you can think of.
